MUB’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut introduced “ukulele soul” – mixing the warm, intimate acoustic tones of ukuleles – soprano, concert, tenor, baritone and bass – played by a group of accomplished Memphis musicians featuring three lead singers, including the luminous voice of newcomer Kyndle McMahan. The resulting EP – “Holidays Ain’t the Same” – sure ain’t the same auld lang syne. Memphis Ukulele Band took on that challenge with a new recipe that brings their unique “ukulele soul” to a seven-song set of seasonal evergreens, deep-catalog classics and two new Christmas originals. Christmas albums can be like musical fruitcake – sickeningly sweet, filled with the same stuff year after year, but still an obligatory Yule tradition.
